Currently there is a work on progress for Thunderbird-Version 3 beta 1. That contains simple user interface, automatic configuration tools and faster usability.
We will see how Thunderbird 3 can compete with other mail clients.
It has been a while now since BeBits is alive. It was always place#1 when it came to Software for BeOS/ZETA and Haiku. The two guys behind it were always excited about the German community, they even once visited BeGeistert in Duesseldorf.
Now after so many years they see themself not in the position to give that project the time it needs. So they decicde to give it away. There is a new owner who is known in the BeOS community, but not named yet.
If you are coding webpages and you wanne be sure it also looks good for the iPhone there is a nice application for that. On hoTodi there is a little interesting VideoTutorial about it. The app is called iPhoney. It lets you set a couple of different and interesting settings to simulate the iPhone as real as possible.
For all of those using Firefox 3.x there is an update available. The Firefox team updated to 3.0.5 as usual they fixed security wholes and gave some more stability to the browser. If you did not set the Browser to automatically update itself then you should do it manually.
Here you can also download it. You can decide the language and the system you are using.
Finally its published, the long awaited 10.5.6 Mac OS X update wit soooo many coool things in. We have installed it immediately and made just some small tests. If you can trust Apple the performance got better all over the place, specially with MobileMe, Syncing and Safari. The browser itself they mentioned is also running more stable now.
Well…we do not use MobileMe.
And with that we already come to the conclusion:
Safari is not feelable faster and also not more stable it is the same slow browser still when it comes to open multiple tabs in once. It is 2-3 times SLOWER than Firefox on the same machine with the same tabs and the same tasks If it would not be the case that Apple closed a couple of security wholes 370MB for a MobileMe update would be not worth to download what Apple hyped up again.
The list of changes you can find here (and here one can see already quite well how easy it is to s t r e t c h a text to let 370MB of an update look good - thx to Apples marketing settlement that they made that possible)
If you want see plenty of interesting Workshops about Mac OS X you should check out hoTodi. They made a lot of them already and the target is from a beginner to a geek. You should not miss them. Unfortunately most of them currently in German only. They also created a group for all Mac OS X enthusiasts.
There are plenty of good concepts for Operating Systems and their interaction with the User. If you know “minority report” you will understand their concept immediently. There is also already a video about g-speak which explains in a impressive way how it works.
With hoTodi there is a new video portal created which only publishes video tutorials with a learning related content. The special thing here seems to be that the users uploaded videos get reviewed from a kind of “jury”. Should the video fulfil the requirements it gets published immediately.
The portal is online since just 8 weeks, but the research have shown that it on all fronts have a very interesting growth. Already almost 100 user regiersted and mostly 200 videotutorials are online.
The name tells everything already
ho = how
To = to
d = do
i = it
The love seems to be in the details
The portal has the potential to something very interesting and a real gap in today’s Internet.
